Will 'Extraction Valley' Change The Path Of Sri Lankan Gaming Industry?


Welcome back to D Guides folks. Today I am starting to write this post as a proud Sri Lankan. I am happy to inform you all that the Sri Lankan Gaming Industry is getting better day by day. This post is about the game 'Extraction Valley' which is the first multiplayer game developed in Sri Lanka. This is a third person/first person shooting game and is planned to release on Steam by this year. The team of Extraction Valley is working on the final development stages as they want to match up with the international level games.


Who Are Behind This Effort?


The RAM Studios team consists of 6 members and each of them have specialized knowledge in one particular area of developing. Here is the list of group members of RAM Studios and their roles.

  • Prabath Megha - Level Designer
  • Ravindu Omantha - 3D Artist
  • Buddhi Pramod - Lead Programmer
  • Thilina Asiri - AI Programmer
  • Auruddha Kumara - Unity Programmer
  • Sandun Bandara - Web Developer

Prabath Megha and Ravindu Omantha are the two people who are the backbone of RAM Studios or the founders of the team. They found others by social media and started to work online as they did not have a specific place to gather and work. Other than that they have got the help of some volunteers and artists while on the way. They especially mentioned a name which is a very known name in the IT industry of Sri Lanka. He is none other than Dr.Harsha Subasinghe name who is the President and CEO at Codegen. They clearly mentioned the help the support got from Codegen Internationals. Other than that the initial capital was sponsored by Codegen.


Story So Far


The Pre-Alpha version of the game was released on May 2018 through their official website ramstudioteam.com for the local market. The team highlighted the fact that the final release which will fall on this year will be completely different from the pre-alpha release. The game has received two awards last year.
  1. Merit Award in the Digital Entertainment category under Digital Social Impact Awards at e-Swabhimani 2018
  2. 2nd Runner-up in the individual/team category under Best Software/Application development at SLT Zero One Awards for the Digital Excellence 2017/2018

Technical Details


The game was developed using Unreal Engine 4.The final requirements are not published yet. They are hoping to publish them soon before the official release. Unfortunately, we won't be able to experience a story mode in the official release. I saw a specialty in their official youtube channel. They provide all the installation guides, other instructions before releasing the game. These are the minimum requirements stated by them for the pre-alpha release. Another fact I have noticed is they have tried their best to give us the experience of our local culture while we are gaming.






I need to mention that we have a great responsibility in supporting them to grow and make Sri Lankan Gaming Industry better and better. I know that cracked games are popular in Sri Lanka. But as Sri Lankans let us buy this game on steam after the official release. I will put a gameplay video of Extraction Valley Pre-Alpha release done by LioN KoLLA at the end of this post.
